Rest in His Garden of Goodness

Prayer is more than asking for things
It is a time of fellowship
It is a time to meet with our Savior
Of His living water we take a sip

We rest in His garden of goodness
He is waiting there to meet
Instead of saying we’re too busy
We sit for a while at His feet

Prayer is an open door to heaven
He hears our requests praises and fears
But it’s a two way conversation
If we take the time to hear

Prayer is a daily practice
Even all throughout the day
A way to connect with our Father
As He guides us and shows us the way

Jesus taught us to pray and never give up
His ways might not always be clear
We might not see results right away
But we are assured that He hears

Let’s take some time today
To connect with our Father above
It will bring us peace and comfort
As we take in His everlasting love

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. – Luke 18:1

Prayer is something that God has been laying on my heart a lot lately. It might seem obvious that prayer is something Christians do. But I fear prayer is often neglected and slowly falling away in many people’s lives. The world needs for us to stand up and become strong prayer warriors. I am going to be writing a lot about prayer in coming posts. I hope they will help encourage us all to “pray without ceasing” as we are instructed to do in 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

Sometimes we mess up
But we keep on going
God’s mercy is great
And helps us to keep growing

We might make mistakes
But it shouldn’t bring us down
God’s arms wrap around us
And He pulls us off the ground

We all need grace sometimes
No one is without flaw
God is there to guide us
And love us all the more

I want to apologize for misspeaking a couple of weeks ago. When writing about the Lord’s Prayer, I said that the last line was not in the Bible. (“For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.”) It is in some traditional versions, like King James. It just has been removed in many modern versions. I never want to misrepresent the Bible, so I thank you for your grace. And I especially wanted to bring it up because too often with blunders like that, I have a tendency to beat myself up. I bet I am not the only one. But the truth is that we are not perfect and we all make mistakes. But we don’t have to put ourselves down. Instead, we correct our mistakes, if possible. And then we should move on and let it go. I am so thankful that God’s mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:23).

  1. I enjoyed your writing on prayer. When I read the last verse where you said let’s take some time to pray and connect with God, I felt compelled to just close my eyes and spend a few moments with God right then and there.
Thank you for this Bridget 🌺
Regarding the error you mentioned, you did the right thing. I can beat myself about these sort of things too.
We all make mistakes. You clarifying it here, helps us understand.
Blessings to you my friend 💙

    • Thank you, my friend! I am glad you enjoyed the piece on prayer, and was encouraged to pray. I feel God is calling all of His children to pray more. And thank you for your kind words regarding the error. I think the enemy is eager to see us feel defeated in situations like these. That is all the more reason to move forward and not let it bring us down. Blessings to you too, dear friend 💕🌸

  2. This is so refreshing! And the photo you chose to go with it is so peaceful! I love the line that says “God’s arms wrap around us and He pulls us off the ground”. There have been so many times that I’ve been lifted up by God’s arms, taking away the guilt that I’ve felt from the mistakes that I’ve made. There’s nothing in the world like that feeling!

    • Michelle, it’s so good to hear from you. I’ve missed your posts and thoughts. I hope all is well. I totally agree with you – there is nothing like the feeling of God picking us up and brushing us off. It reminds me of the song, “The God Who Stays” by Matthew West. Even when everyone else deserts us, He is there! ✝️🙏❤️

      • Aww..thank you! We bought a new home about 40 min away so we’ve been fixing it up so we can move in. The drive and all the work leaves me too exhausted to do anything else! I’ve missed blogging!
        I love that song! 😀

      • Congrats! I remember you saying you had put in an offer on a home. That is wonderful. Sending prayers for you guys. Moving alone is not fun. Then adding the long drive and fixing it up. That’s a lot!

      • Thank you for the prayers! They’re much needed! 11 days after closing a strong storm blew through and knocked a tree onto the family room addition. So now we have a huge hole in the roof. Ugh! I’m trying to see the blessing in it though. We knew we were going to have to put a new roof on within the next few years, so now we’re just getting one sooner. That’s the blessing I’m seeing in all this right now. 🙂 It’s just taking way too long to hear back from a contractor to fix the walls.

      • Oh no! I am so sorry! But glad to hear you are looking for the blessing. That definitely helps when we are tempted to feel frustrated. God will get you through it, one step at a time.

  3. Wonderful Poetry, Bridget. I struggle with prayer. More how to pray than making time for it. Maybe my heart isn’t always in it enough. Sometimes I forget that it’s not just words it’s time with the Lord. Maybe I don’t value it enough. I can certainly beat myself up. I was just in that mode today. So I so appreciate the reminder to show myself grace while I’m growing. Thanks so much for sharing. Blessings. ❤

    • I understand struggling with prayer. I have been in the same boat recently, which is why I have been on a mission to improve that area… I am glad the reminder to give yourself grace was helpful. I know how you feel, as it seems I am always discouraged with myself for something. But I also know a lot of that is the enemy. He likes to condemn. But God is on our side and eager to encourage us… Blessings to you as well, friend! ❤️

    • Seek was my word of the year in 2019 and I gleaned so much that year. Crazy as it sounds, the word seek holds a special place in my heart. So I agree and think you named your blog perfectly. ❤️ You are absolutely right, God’s grace sure does cover our blunders. I am so thankful for that. Thank you for stopping by! Blessings to you too 💕

  5. Prayer is vital. I enjoy prayer, but sometimes fall short myself. It is a privilege to be able to talk to the Lord about everything throughout our day, even in the middle of the night, which I sometimes do. Thanks for this wonderful post.

    • I fall short sometimes as well. That is one reason why I have been studying and clinging to prayer lately. And you are absolutely right, it is a privilege! I don’t want to take that for granted. Thank you for stopping by and for sharing your thoughts! ✝️🙏❤️
