Our Teacher and Director

“This is what the LORD says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.’” – Isaiah 48:17

What a gift we have in the Lord. When we first become Christians we might think that our new path is all about salvation. And while that is a big part of it, there is so much more. We now have a relationship with the Most High God, thanks to Jesus.

Our relationship brings many blessings through our earthly life. The verse above is an example of the gifts we have in the Lord. God teaches us what is best for us and God directs us in the way we should go.

As long as we are on this earth, we will face challenges and obstacles. We will continually need God to teach us and to direct us. And it brings a lot of comfort to know that He is there and He wants to help us. We don’t have to do it on our own.

I have heard Dr. Charles Stanley say in his sermons that when we are facing a difficulty, we should ask God what He wants us to learn from it. Everything we face, God allowed. He will not send us through a difficult situation to hurt us. He loves us and only wants the best for us. But when we do have a challenge in our lives, God will have a reason. And ultimately He will use it to help us change for the better.

However, even in our daily lives we have much we can learn and we need much guidance. When we think we have it all together, we run the risk of not seeking the Lord for His help and His strength. So it does us good to lean on Him, no matter what we are walking through.

“God is loving, compassionate and intimately involved in our lives. He is eternally committed to our best and wants us to know how much he cares for us.” – Dr. Charles Stanley

When we are facing a decision, we have limited knowledge. We can only see today. But God can see tomorrow, a year from now, and ten years from now. That’s why He will know what the best route is. Going one way might make more sense with what we know of our lives at this moment. But going a different route might be the best route when viewing the bigger picture.

Whatever you are going through today, I hope you will turn to the Lord for guidance. As children of The Most High God, He wants to guide us and teach us. And remember that no matter what you are facing, The One and Only God of the universe sees you and loves you. He cares about every moment of your day. And He is working all things together for good.

“And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.” – Romans 8:28 AMP

“That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.” – Romans 8:28 MSG

Thank you for reading. I hope you have a blessed weekend.

But the LORD directs his steps.

  2. Isaiah 48:17 wasn’t underlined in my Bible, but it is now, sister! And it pairs perfectly with Romans 8:28. GPS= God’s Positioning System 😇 All of His paths for us are accurate—with no misdirection.
Great post, Bridget. Thank you, and God Bless.

    • “God’s Positioning System” – I love that! Sometimes when we look at our situations with human eyes, it can be difficult to understand what God is up to. But He is always trustworthy. As you said, “no misdirection!” So true. Thank you for the kind words, David. Sometimes I wonder if my thoughts make sense when I put them in writing. Lol. But your comment made me smile and encouraged me. God bless you too, brother!

  3. Amen 🙏🏽. May we lean into Him for guidance and to direct our path. The most difficult part is to look for what the Lord is teaching me through a challenge. I tend to initially always pray for the issue to go away but eventually realise that it is better to lean into what He is growing within me spiritually.
Have a blessed weekend too Bridget 💙

    • I know what you mean. I also tend to pray for my problems to go away. I find it especially difficult when numerous problems pile up. Just this week I was dealing with a setback. But before I had time to process it, another obstacle came along. I hope we can do better remembering that God is with us, He has a plan and a purpose, and we need to turn to Him with whatever we face. He is trustworthy and faithful! 🙌 Thank you, Manu! Blessings! 💕

      • Praying that the Lord will help with whatever you are facing. And that you lean into Him so much more during this time. One of the verses I hold onto during challenges is Psalm 46:1 The Lord is my strength and my fortress, my ever present help in trouble.

  4. This is so timely! Only God has all the answers we seek and know the scope of our lives from start to finish. We usually don’t understand, but when we put faith in His goodness, sometimes not understanding is still to our benefit. We grow through our difficulties and trials, we grow through seeking and finding the answers to life’s questions.
Thank you for sharing! I hope you have a great weekend, Bridget. 🙂

    • I love the way you phrased that – “put faith in His goodness.” Yes and amen! It’s not always easy. But you’re right, when we do that, we will grow so much through it all. Thank you, Summer. I hope you have a great weekend too 🤍

  5. My pastor shared one time about how he told his son, “You’re seen, I am 40. I know more.” and then he shared God could say to us, “I am eternal and you are ….” Got the point across 🙂

  6. What a relief that we are able to pray for God to open doors and close doors, and He will, in His way, though we need to be sure and include, as Jesus did, “Thy will not mine be done.”

  8. I love Stanley…….and have several of HIS devotional books. Oh what we do learn through the trials we go through. I have learned so so much going through cancer for me and now my husband. And I thank GOD for it! HE has touched my heart in ways I never thought possible. Blessings on your week!

    • I love Charles Stanley too. And I even got to meet him once! So true about trials. We certainly wouldn’t choose to go through them. But when we look back, we can see how God was with us through it all.

    • I’m so glad this was encouraging. What an awesome God we have. He never leaves us or forsakes us. And He is always working, even if we can’t see it yet. What a gift we have in Him!

  9. I was thinking the other day, how good it is that we can turn to God for direction and guidance, particularly amid the unknown outcomes of our present struggles. Thanks for this refreshing and encouraging post.
