Now to Him

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. – Ephesians 3:20-21 NKJV

When disappointments and hurts come our way, it’s so easy to feel discouraged. We might feel down or angry. And sometimes we might be tempted to stop praying and turn away from God. Many will ask why God allowed the pain in our lives. Too often, humans turn their focus and their emotions in the wrong direction.

And we also have an enemy who tries to steer us away from the Lord. The enemy wants to keep us from praying and reading our Bibles, because he knows how powerful those tools are. The enemy wants us to feel isolated or discouraged, because that helps break us away from God and our loved ones.

But when a difficulty comes our way, that’s when we need to cling to God the most. We can’t allow fear to creep in. Instead we can be intentional and turn our thoughts into praise and thanksgiving. We might not see the answer to our prayer yet, but God is still working.

And even when things don’t go the way we want, we can remember that Gods ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9) and He is working all things together for good (Romans 8:28).

We have to be mindful about keeping our thoughts and emotions in the right direction. In the beginning, it takes a lot of work and practice. But over time it will come more naturally to us.

What a gift to know that we have an all-powerful God who actually cares about us. And He doesn’t leave our sides. When a difficulty comes, He is there. As it says in Psalm 75:1 – “We thank you, O God! We give thanks because you are NEAR…” (emphasis added)

No matter what we are facing, it does us good to remember the mighty God that we have beside us. He is all power. He is all good. And He is able. As it says in Ephesians 3:20 – “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think…”

The words in this verse “Now to Him” feel so powerful to me. They remind me that all power is in God’s hands. What a comfort that is, especially when we remember that God is our strength and help. And even more than that – He cares about us and loves us.

God loves to surprise his faithful people with answers to their prayers that far exceed anything they could hope for or imagine (Ex 14:10–14; 2Ch 20:5–27; Ac 12:5–17). The Lord has wonderful plans for your life, so do not be discouraged by disappointments along the way. Keep following him faithfully, and continue believing that he will answer your prayers in a manner that is better than anything you have ever dreamed or envisioned. – Charles Stanley

Whatever it is you are struggling with today, remember that you have a magnificent Lord who is on your side. He loves you more than you can imagine. Hold tightly to Him. Believe that He is there for you.

    • You’re welcome! I’m glad this was encouraging. I need the reminders too. The enemy tries to bring us down, and sometimes we have to fight extra hard to keep our mindset in the right place. But God is so good and He helps along the way 🙌

    • You’re welcome, Manu! I’m glad this post and the Bible verses were uplifting. And I needed them too. Little worries in life can wreak havoc on our minds. I want to remember that we have a mighty God who is always there. It brings comfort to know that He is on our side. ♥️

    • You’re welcome, Dawn! I’m so glad this post was heartening. And I’m glad it was timely. I love how God brings us what we need, right when we need it. He is so awesome! And He is always looking out for us. We are so blessed. I liked that quote from Dr. Stanley too. When I was driving into the office, I used to listen to him on the radio every morning. And it seemed like he always had something powerful to say. I’m glad you enjoyed the sunset picture. Nothing matches God’s artwork! I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! 💜

  6. I think of MercyMe’s “Even If” and the line in “Facing the Giants”: If we win, we praise Him. If we lose, we praise Him. There’s nothing quite so satisfying as knowing you annoy the adversary by praising God during the difficulties.

    • Oh I love that, Judy! It’s been a while since I’ve seen that movie, so I don’t remember all the lines. Definitely a good one, though! “Even If” is a good song. And I like the lyrics in Micah Tyler’s song “Praise the Lord.” He says, “When the devil come try to get me, Gonna praise the Lord.” Yes 🙌

    • Yes! So very true! Sometimes we stress over how God will handle things. We think we know best. But I’m so thankful to know that no matter how God handles it, He is still trustworthy and faithful! 🙌

  8. Very encouraging post, Bridget. Sometimes hard things don’t come in an instant, they are the result of a long and difficult journey. That’s how I’ve been feeling. It definitely can cause some fear and anxiety when you’re struggling to draw close to God. So, I bought myself a little book called, “Worry Less Pray More” A woman’s devotional guide to anxiety free living, by Donna K. Maltese. I’m also trying to read through the “Shepherd Trilogy” by Phillip Keller. And for some easy (give my brain and emotions a rest) sort of read, I’m reading an old classic “The Secret Garden.”

    • I know what you mean. Often for me, it’s a pile of small worries that bring me down. But I love that you armed yourself with ways to stay close to God. That is important. The books you mentioned all sound like good ones. I have read “A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23,” and it is really one of the best books I have ever read. I’m glad this post was comforting.   10. This was a beautiful post, and an especially beautiful post to read before Easter. We are so blessed by the life God has given us in Christ Jesus. And God does love to surprise us. As you have said so eloquently, things may not always go the way we plan, but God always has a plan. His plan is far better than anything we could dream up on our own. I have been clinging to JESUS since August 2022 with my breast cancer diagnosis. And HE answered my prayer far more than I could imagine with a Stage 1a diagnosis. Hearing you have cancer is a very scary thing, but GOD does abundantly more than we could ever know. And I am praising HIM today with you and thank you for this reminder of what an incredible GOOD GOD we have!
