I Miss You, Dad

Caution before reading – if losing a loved one is a sensitive topic, you might want to skip this post, or grab some tissues…

When you left this earth
You took a piece of my heart
I miss you so much
It hurts to be apart

There are many things I’d like to ask you
Many things I’d like to say
Hear one of your funny stories
Or just hear about your day

Time slips by so quickly
I wish we had more days
Special moments together
Memories to tuck away

I will choose to remember the good days
The special memories we shared
Times when you made me laugh
Times that showed how much you cared

I know I will see you again
And for that I’m so glad
But until that day comes
I miss you, Dad

  2. Losing family is so difficult, even knowing they are going to be with the Lord. It is their gain but our loss. The special days like birthdays and Christmas are even harder. I’m praying for you and your family today, Bridget.

  3. I’m sorry to hear about your Dad Bridget. You and your family are in my prayers. I like the poem and pictures you shared. On 1/21, it’s been 2 years since I lost my mom and it’s still not easy, but like you with your Dad, I’m glad I will see her again someday. ❤️

  4. Sorry for your loss Bridget and thankful that your Dad knew His Heavenly Father. Though parting is hard we do not grieve as those without hope because we know there will come a day when we will see them again. I pray God draws near to you and comforts you in your time of grief. May the peace of God be with you. ❤️

  7. Sorry for your loss little sister. A sweet reunion is in the future, hopefully because of Jesus’s return, but the loss is still felt. Prayed for you little sister for God’s comfort.

  8. Oh Bridget. I too am very sorry for your loss. What a lovely tribute you’ve written about your dad. I think our fathers would have been friends if they’d known each other. Many of the descriptors you included would have applied to my dad too–funny stories, making special memories, demonstrating his love with attentiveness, and more. They both served in the armed forces too–your dad in the army (Vietnam?), my dad in the Navy (WW 2). Not a day goes by that I don’t remember Mom and Dad, but always with gratitude and admiration. My heart aches for those whose memories are mostly painful.

  9. Oh, what a sweet and heartfelt post! I was very close to my Dad too. His example of how to live as a Christian is always before me. And I hear his voice always encouraging me and helping me along with his particular wisdom. His words always ring in the back of my mind. I miss him.

  12. I did not see this when you posted it, Bridget. I saw your later post and realized your dad had passed on to heaven.
I am lifting up you and your family in prayer, as you continue to process the grief of your dad’s passing.
    🙏❤️ for your and yours.

    • Thank you, David. Some days are harder than others. But it really is a gift to know my dad is in heaven, no longer suffering, and I will see him again. All thanks to Jesus and the hope He gives us. Thank you for your prayers. They are priceless. 🤍
