Every day is a gift!
I’m back with another monthly “Blessings and Reminders” post. In this post I will share some of the events from the month that brought a lesson, or highlighted the goodness of God.
The first of March marked two years since I have been working from home. Over the years, I had several friends from work that moved on to different opportunities where they were working remotely. And some of them even reached out to me and offered to help me get a position with their companies. But at the time, I was hesitant. I just didn’t feel like it was the right time. Looking back, I know it was the Holy Spirit prompting me to stay put. God opened a door for me, right where I was. I didn’t have to start over at a new company. I was able to stay with the company I have been with for many years. What a gift. This reminds me to trust God through all the ups and downs. Don’t be too quick to jump, without seeking His will first. He will guide us down the best path. And His ways are better than our ways. 🙌
If you have been reading my posts for a while, you might know that I like using a gratitude journal, which I started in the fall of 2017. Thanks to inspiration from Ann Voskamp’s book One Thousand Gifts, I count the items I log. I use a five-subject spiral notebook each year. When I reach the end of a page, I will add the blessings from that page to my running total, and jot down the new number on the bottom of that page. In March I passed 23,000 gifts. And this merely represents the items I have written down. There are so many good things in each day that I miss or forget to note. I am in awe of God’s goodness and how much He looks out for us. I have to wonder how many times He is working behind the scenes to protect us or provide for us, when we aren’t aware of it. 🥰
I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 89:1 ESV
My husband and I have been enjoying sitting outside most days and getting some fresh air. We live in a somewhat rural area, with a large cow pasture across the street. It’s peaceful to get outdoors for a few minutes. Sometimes it’s the simple things that can bring us joy. Many of us need to be better about carving out these small moments in our day to breathe. Each of us might have different things that will bring us a bit of peace. Maybe listening to music, drinking a hot cup of tea, or taking a walk. In the example I gave, my husband and I have been enjoying God’s creation. And as Daryl Madden said in his poem, Nature Shown, “To cherish creation, Itself is a prayer.” 🏡
On a similar note – one day when I was walking my dog, he took a moment to sniff a rose bush. He reminded me to stop and smell the roses. I always feel the need to fill my time doing something. I think many of us are like that. I have heard a pastor say that we are called human beings, not human doings. Yet, often many of us feel the need to do, and we find it difficult to be. My smart pup is on to something. Let’s learn to stop and smell the roses. 🌹
If you had any blessings or reminders that you would like to share in the comments, I’d love to hear them.
Also, please let me know if you have any special prayer requests. If you don’t feel comfortable sharing in the comments, you can email me at bridget@bridgetathomas.com. To my friends who have shared prayer requests before – I am still praying! If you don’t mind, please say a prayer for my family and me. Thank you. 🙏
Thank you for reading. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Bridget, so good to read your blessings and reminders post. Praise God for providing an opportunity for you to work from home in the same company.
Gosh, 23000- reminds me of the value in noting things like this down otherwise we can so easily skip how wonderfully the Lord looks after us.
Enjoying the outside— was just doing it this evening ( Saturday) with hubby. A simple joy that we have also found to be very satisfying.
Human being and not human doings- I like that. I must say that nowadays everyone tries to fill their day to the max. I now prefer a slower pace. It has been so much better for me.
Blessings my friend 💙

God is so good. I want to be better about keeping my eyes open to His goodness. I love that you and your hubby have been enjoying the outdoors too. And I like hearing that you have been going at a slower pace. When the pandemic hit, many people realized they preferred the slower pace. But I think as things opened back up, it didn’t necessarily last. As with many areas of our lives, we have to be intentional. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Blessings to you too, my friend. 🦋

Ah, simple blessings. They are so many and so varied.
Last night was the first night of a new Ladies Book Study. We are beginning the book, ‘Slave,’ by John MacArthur. As I looked around at the start of our meeting, I was just blessed to be among these women friends and sisters again. It has been a while since our last book study.
Sunrises and sunsets are a constant reminder of the glory of God. I glory in them each time.
I live in a comfortable home with my husband who loves me and is good to me.
I love my family.
God has set my boundaries in pleasant places, indeed.

For some reason your comment went to spam! Glad I found it. Thank you for sharing your blessings from the month. I’ve not heard of that book. I will be looking it up! A ladies book study does sound like a rich time of fellowship and growing together. I agree with you about the sunrises and sunsets! A daily reminder of God’s presence and goodness! And sweet sentiments about your home, husband, and family. Thank you, Kathy! God’s goodness never ceases! ♥️

You’re welcome! WordPress had been all over the place lately. I’ve also seen a few times lately when comments seem to fall into a black hole somewhere! Lol.

This was a great post, Bridget! 23,000 gifts so far 🤯 and that that only scratches the surface of what He’s given us. 🙌🏻
“I have heard a pastor say that we are called human beings, not human doings. Yet, often many of us feel the need to do, and we find it difficult to be.”
So true 🥺 I feel that deeply. It’s hard to relax and just be in the moment at times.
Thanks for sharing!! 🤗

Yes! If we only knew how much God did for us. But I do think we could become more aware, if we paid attention to every moment. But as you mentioned, it is difficult to be in the moment. Not just sometimes, but a lot. I think it takes practice and intentionality. Thank you, Summer, for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! ♥️

“We are human beings, not human doings.” How true this is, and so many of us leave no room in the margins (of life) to stop and smell the roses. It’s hard to imagine, but being around children slows me down. Almost daily a kid at my school says something so simple, yet profound, that it causes me to pause and think. I’ve been friends with God since I was 9 years old, and He’s never been in as big of a hurry as me! Counting all the gratitude gifts is a great idea. I try to log 4 or 5 things everyday that I did to help someone else.

I agree that many of us do not leave enough room in the margins. And it actually makes sense that spending time with children helps you slow down. Children are good at being present in the moment, and I think adults could use some help in that area. I really love that you note ways you help someone else. That’s such a blessing – for you and for them. It’s amazing how helping others can do so much for our own hearts. Thank you, David. I loved hearing your insight.

I enjoyed reading your March blessings and reminders. Thankful to hear how you listened to the Holy Spirit regarding your job and things worked out. Also 23,000 blessings is amazing!! ❤️ The end of March I started journaling about what God is teaching me about walking in faith. That has been a true blessing to continue to learn and grow in this area. Please keep my organization in prayer. They are going through some changes and recently laid off quite a bit of people. Thanks for the prayers. And the sunset photo is beautiful! 🤩

I love that you’ve been journaling about the things God is revealing to you. I find that when we take note of those things, it helps those lessons to not slip away. Thank you for sharing that. And yes I will definitely be praying for your organization. I’m sorry to hear about all the changes. It must be unsettling for all. I’m glad you liked the photo. Nothing compares to God’s artwork! Have a great rest of your weekend, Dawn! 💜

I’m so grateful I took the opportunity to create an advent calendar for Easter, reading specific scriptures and watching movies for the season. I’ll do it again next year with some improvements. What a blessing. God is so good. I’m so grateful for Jesus.

It’s definitely a good reminder for us when we try to do too much, or even when we try to work out our salvation. 🤔 Thank you for stopping by! 🤗

I love this idea,I m going to try this. We are often good at taking problems to pray but less so good on taking blessings. I need to work on this ❤️

Delightful inspiration, Bridget! I too started a gratitude journal in March of 2017. I only write down an item or two each day, but just reviewing the day to decide what to record is a blessing in itself, as I focus on the goodness of our Father. / I too love to sit outdoors on our deck, in “God’s Living Room” (a Michael Hyatt expression, which I love). Also appreciate that Daryl Madden line!

Nancy, thank you for sharing some of the things that bring you joy. In our world, it is important to stay intentional with seeking gratitude and also keeping our eyes open for God’s goodness. We have so many blessings. But I think life and distraction can cause us to overlook them, if we are not careful. Praise God for not giving up on us! 🙌🤍🙏

Oh my goodness 23,000!!!! Wow I love that!!!
Super cute with your dog stopping to smell the roses…I remember last year when my daughters dog was zeroed in on a butterfly gracefully flapping its wings, which is so funny to me because normally that dog is bouncing around like crazy!!! But the fact that he paused to watch blessed my heart, and was a great lesson for myself to remember to slow down.

Beautiful post! So much wisdom here to enjoy the quiet moments in life. It is true…we do not always have to be doing something!!!

Yesterday I was reading a book by Henri Nouwen in which he said, “Solitude and silence are ways to get to the heart, because the heart is the place where God speaks to us, where we hear the voice that calls us beloved.” I am an introvert, so silence and solitude are gold to me. But sometimes I get stuck in a chaotic routine, and I forget to carve out those quiet moments. Even in prayer we tend to default to doing all the talking, instead of allowing God to speak as well. I am so glad the Lord continues to remind us of truth and doesn’t give up on us. 🙌
