Who’s Praying?

Sometimes lately when I think about different people, I will wonder who’s praying for them. I might even have a slight panic at the thought of someone not having praying people in their lives.

Does P have anyone that prays for her? What if K’s family doesn’t pray for her spiritual growth? Does R have anyone praying for him?

It can be sobering to think about. But it also reminds me that prayer is invaluable. It is a privilege that we can come to God in prayer at any time. And we can come before His throne interceding for others.

What an incredible gift it is to know that someone is praying for you. Think about those who came before you, and those in your life now. We are very blessed if we can name off other people who have prayed or who are praying for us.

But even for the Christian who is all alone with no family or friends, they still have prayers on their behalf. Romans 8 says, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” And “Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” (v 26 & 34 NIV, emphasis added)

What an honor it is to know that the Lord Himself intercedes for us!

And for the lost, we are called to share the hope found in Jesus. Sometimes we cannot physically do that, depending on the situation. But we can pray for the lost.

If we have nothing else, we always have prayer.

I don’t know why, but when a famous person comes up in conversation, I will often look them up on the internet and read a little about their personal life. I always want to know if they are religious, or if they have a family. If I learn that this person isn’t a Christian, I will pray for them! It might sound odd to some, but I have to wonder if there is anyone else in their life praying for their salvation.

With 8.3 billion people in the world, obviously we can’t pray for every person individually. However, we can pray for those who God lays on our hearts.

And speaking of 8.3 billion people in the world – isn’t it just extraordinary to think about God seeing every single one of us? He doesn’t miss a single detail in our lives. How loved we are. And He hears every single prayer! His ear is always turned toward us.

It says in Psalm 55:16-17 NKJV, “As for me, I will call upon God, and the Lord shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice.”

So let’s stand together in prayer. Prayer is one of the most important tools we have as Christians. Pray is a way of life.
