Abiding in God’s Love

You may know that one of my favorite words is abide. Abiding in Jesus is key to walking out our Christian life.

I love the verses from John 15:4-5 (NKJV) where Jesus said, “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Something that I have been thinking about this week, due to something that was said in last Sunday’s church sermon, takes this a step further.

Beyond abiding in the Lord, we also should make an effort to abide in His Love. This reminds us, on a deeper level, of the grace and mercy we have received. This reminds us that we don’t have to strive to earn God’s love, because He already loves us immeasurably. This reminds us that His promises are true, and we can trust Him.

When we remember that our Heavenly Father loves us unconditionally, this changes how we live our lives. Our walk honors Him. We can face each day with confidence, no matter what comes our way, because we know He is by our side. We don’t have to fear, because His perfect love casts out fear (see 1 John 4:18).

God is love. And He cannot go against His own nature. When we abide in His love, we grow in His love. And His love literally changes everything.

Tomorrow is Father’s Day in the United States. Let us remember our Heavenly Father and His immense love for us, this Father’s Day and every day. Let’s remember to thank Him, not only for all He does for us, but for who He is.

Happy Father’s Day to my dear dad, who is now celebrating in heaven. Happy Father’s Day to my wonderful husband. And Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. I hope your weekend is filled with love.

Thank you for reading. God bless you all.

  1. Your pastor makes a valid point: when Jesus invites us to abide in Him, it’s an invitation to dwell in His unconditional love and acceptance. I often find myself thinking that I need to earn love from everyone, including God. However, God is love, and it’s an inherent part of His nature. Thank you for sharing, Bridget. And thank you for the heartfelt Happy Father’s Day wish. May God’s blessings be upon you!

    • I love the way you put that – “it’s an invitation to dwell in His unconditional love and acceptance.” It’s crazy how we continue to fret over things, when God is right there ready to handle our worries and to give us His love. You’re very welcome, David! I hope you enjoy your Father’s Day. You deserve it. And may God’s blessings be upon you too.

This reminds me that I’m daughter of the one true King! 🙌🏻

    Thank you for this. ❤️
Happy Father’s Day to both our fathers who are now with our Heavenly Father. ✝️

    • Yes! So true. On both points. We don’t have to worry about a thing when we remember our Father is THE King of the world. And wouldn’t it be cool if our dads met in heaven? One day we will see them again and I’m so thankful for that. Happy Father’s Day to them both. 💙💙

  4. I never specifically thought of abiding in His love. This is very reassuring and gives me peace and rest thinking of God’s love always being there for me. It surely helps protect from wanting to strive but rather we make effort to make choice that please Him as our hearts and desires are aligned with Him.
