In the Middle

After Jesus died on the cross and was buried in the tomb, we can imagine His friends and disciples felt hopeless. They had spent every day with this man. They followed Him and they learned from Him. Each day they grew in their knowledge and their relationship. Suddenly, the One they thought brought all hope was gone. Now what? Where would they go from here? What would they do next? Life as they knew it was over.

We have the privilege of knowing the whole story. We know that this time in the middle of hopeless and hopeful was only temporary. We know the disciples would learn that Jesus was alive. He defeated death. He truly was who they thought – the Messiah.

In our stories, we have a lot of time in the middle too. Each season of our lives will bring different middle circumstances, but many of them will boil down to the same conditions. A disappointment comes our way, life feels hopeless, and we can’t see how something good will come.

Just as we have the privilege of knowing the whole story with Jesus’ death, God has the privilege of knowing our whole story too. When we are in the middle, and life feels hopeless, He sees how things will end. He knows there is still hope. He knows that something good will come.

And as we grow in our Christian walk, we have a better understanding that everything in life is temporary. The good, the bad, and life as a whole. But this is good news. No matter what we are going through, we have something better to look towards.

Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. – Romans 8:18

Tomorrow we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. We celebrate the fact that He took our large sin debt and stamped it with the words “Paid in full!” We celebrate our freedom. We celebrate that we can look forward to an eternity in heaven.

As you celebrate Easter, remember what the disciples went through when they were in the middle. And remember that no matter what you are walking through right now, you are in the middle too. Even if you are dealing with something painful, God is there. He knows how it ends. When we surrender our stories to Him, He can work things out better than we can imagine. As we celebrate Jesus, let us hold on to hope. And let us remember that having Jesus in our lives changes everything.

I hope you have a Happy and Blessed Easter!

    • Went to spam again! But at least I remembered to check this time. Maybe a quicker approval will make a difference for next time 🤷‍♀️ … I hope you and your wife have a happy and blessed Easter too! We have so much to be grateful for and to celebrate as we remember Christ’s death and resurrection. ✝️

  1. This is a wonderful parallel, Bridget! Just like the original disciples didn’t know the whole story (until after Christ rose from the dead) we don’t know all God has planned for our lives. One of my favorite TED talk personalities, Rose Cantor says, “Everything looks like failure in the middle.”
Thankfully, God never fails, and He’s in charge of the beginning, middle, and (most importantly) the end. 🤗 I hope you and your husband have a blessed Easter (Resurrection Sunday).

    • I’m not familiar with Rose Cantor, but I like the quote you shared! It’s amazing how we can have peace in the middle of the storm, all because we know who our Captain is. I’m so thankful for Jesus and all that He has done for us. 🙌 I hope you and your wife have a blessed Easter too!

  2. Bridget, I was reflecting on the hopelessness the disciples and those who followed Jesus must have felt. As you said we know the whole story. I love the connection you draw to our days in the middle that feel hopeless. Very encouraging. God knows and He is in control of it all.
Have a blessed Easter, my friend 💙

    • Thanks to Jesus, we have so much to be grateful for! Knowing that God is in control brings us such peace and comfort. As we grow in our walk with Him, it’s amazing how our trust grows too. May we praise His holy name every day! Thank you, my friend! And I hope you have a blessed Easter too! ✝️

  3. What a difference there is between committed Christians who have hope, and those who don’t. I think this is why we see so many deaths of despair in the world. Without hope, people can’t see that there is anything beyond current circumstances and feelings.

Sometimes it takes experience, but God teaches us that we always have hope in Him, that He is God of our futures, and He loves us. We can rest in that, even during the despair.

    • So true! Those who don’t have a relationship with the Lord may not be able to understand the peace we have. And even as a young Christian, it might be difficult to grasp. Personally I have seen how each step with God by my side has helped me to grow in this area. And what a treasure it is now to know that no matter what we face, we have Almighty God with us. He is so trustworthy and faithful! What a gift we have in Him! 🙌

  4. Thank you Bridget! As you mentioned, God can see the whole story. We just have to trust Him. He understands and has a plan. I can’t imagine how the disciples must have felt. That reminds me of us as we go through difficult times. It all worked out when Jesus rose. In the end they were amazed. He wants to amaze us too. Wishing you a blessed Easter.

    • “He wants to amaze us too.” I love that! And it’s so true. No matter what we are up against, we have a mighty Lord beside us. We can trust Him through it all. It’s amazing the sense of peace that brings to our hearts. I hope you have a blessed Easter too, Dawn! ✝️

  5. I read yesterday that the silence of God, in the in between, does not mean the absence of God. He is always with us, even when it feels otherwise. 🤗 Thanks for sharing!! ✝️

  6. I can’t imagine living without the hope that Easter assures, the hope of eternal life. We enjoy hope for our days on earth too, as Christ made it possible to experience the God-enhanced, abundant life here and now. He does indeed change everything. Thank you for a spirit-lifting post, Bridget!

  7. I am reading this a little late, but it is a very inspiring post. Yes, God is there in all of our ‘middles’ and in every life circumstance. We can trust our stories to Him because his mercy and love endures forever and He treasures our book of life…all the pages, all the chapters.

    • I love how you put that! “He treasures our book of life…all the pages, all the chapters.” Such a good point. Last night before I went to bed, I listened to the song “Crazy About You” by Tauren Wells. I love this song and have listened to it many times. But last night it really stirred inside of me how much our Heavenly Father pours His love over us. Even when we make mistakes, His love is unfailingly and unconditional. And when we are “In the Middle” – there is no better arms to be held by, than the arms of our Lord. What an amazing gift we have in Him! 🙌 Linda, thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!

  8. Indeed Bridget my Christian friend, Jesus died on the cross for our sins. I was reading this Bible booklet that said “Jesus is the lamb of God that takes the sins of the world away”

Great blog post about the love of God💖🙏🙏💖

Take care and have a blast weekend💯
